WeLNES GLP-1 Pilot: Developing and Pilot Testing a Behavioral Intervention to Support Discontinuation of GLP-1 Medications While Maintaining Weight Loss

The WeLNES GLP-1 pilot program is being conducted by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
We are doing a research study to learn about the usefulness and acceptability of a new telehealth coaching program to address the challenges of stopping glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medications after weight loss. A total of 60 people (30 in each program) are expected to take part.
This study is looking for adults who are currently taking a GLP-1 medication for weight loss and are planning to discontinue the medication in the next four to six weeks. In this study, participants will be asked to complete 16 coaching calls with an expert coach. The coaching calls will be once a week for 16 weeks.
The goal of this study is to create a program to help people who want to maintain weight loss after stopping GLP-1 medication. The study will also involve several short surveys at the start of the study and again at 16 and 24 weeks after you join the study. If you decide to take part, your involvement in the study would be completed within 24 weeks or (i.e., about 6 months). As compensation for your time, you will receive $20 after each follow-up survey and scale weighing is completed. An additional $20 bonus will be offered if you complete the online version of the survey and scale weighing within 72 hours. After you finish your 16 calls and follow-up surveys, you may be randomly selected to do a 45-60 minute phone interview asking about your experiences with the WeLNES-GLP program. We will ask up to 10 people to do these phone interviews. If you are selected to do the phone interview about the program and you complete it, you will receive an additional $50.
Please email us at welnes@fredhutch.org to ask questions about the study.
It costs nothing to join this study. The study programs are free. You will receive up to $80 for completing the two follow up surveys and scale weighings.
In order to see if you are eligible for this study, you will first need to fill out a screening survey. This survey asks some basic questions about your history, age, race/ethnicity, place of residence, and gender. Your answers to the screening survey questions will be entered in this secured website and kept confidential by our study staff.
You do not have to be in this study. You are free to say yes or no, or to drop out after joining. There is no penalty or loss of benefits if you say no.
